LINKS TO VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATIONS

The Governor's Office of Volunteerism was established to support the growth and the development of volunteerism throughout the State through promotion, coordination and enhancement of citizen participation.

The concept of a citizen/government partnership was generated. Citizens, businesses, and community organizations joined together to contribute their time, service and financial resources to the partnership, expanding the services in their communities. Government, through the Governor's office of Volunteerism, provided the networking, coordination, and leadership assisting the volunteer programs in their growth and development.

Today, the mission of the Governor's Office of Volunteerism remains the same. Advocacy, recognition, communication, and technical assistance form the backbone of the newly re-energized Office.

NJAVA envisions a state in which the lives of individuals and communities are improved by the positive impact of volunteer action. There continues to be an increasing emphasis placed on the role of volunteers in American society. Volunteer resource managers face unique issues in coordinating the mission of their organizations with the needs of both staff and volunteers. NJAVA approaches these issues by providing its members with a statewide network of professional and educational resources including a variety of workshops and meetings where professionals who work with volunteers can meet and share experiences.
